It has been a long time coming, QuickBooks 2022 will be on an annual subscription basis and will sell as Pro Plus, Premier Plus and Mac Plus. It is scheduled to be available to all businesses in October 2021 and the benefits are:

QuickBooks Desktop 2021 is the latest version to buy without a subscription and will be supported for three years. 2021 is perpetual buy, one time purchase and is available till December 10, 2021. This includes version Pro, Premier and Mac Desktop versions. QuickBooks 2021 and earlier versions are supported by Intuit for three years from the year of the version. For eg. 2021 will be supported till May 2024.
Let me unravel the questions and bring some clarity with an actual scenario.
As we have a niche in real estate; investors and brokers have companies and partnerships where each will have its own EIN (Employer Identification Number). The rule of thumb is that each EIN should have its own company file.
- QuickBooks 2020 Desktop and earlier: You can have an unlimited number of company files with one-time purchase of Pro, Premier or Mac version. It is pennies a day!
- QuickBooks 2021 Desktop: You can have an unlimited number of company files with an annual subscription of Pro Plus, Premier Plus or Mac Plus version.
- QuickBooks Online: Whereas for the QuickBooks online, each EIN should have its own subscription. Multi subscriptions discounts are also available.
Say you have 20 EIN, you will have to select either to pay for the desktop version or 20 subscriptions for the online version.
Are you using version 2020 and older? If you want to save on cost, then upgrade to 2021 and after three years you should revisit the version you want to invest in.
Are you using the Plus version? If so you do not have to worry as you will automatically renew. Before you automatically renew, give us a call and I may be able to offer you discounts on your renewal.
QuickBooks Accountant Desktop edition, will be available as a one time purchase at $799 dollars for a one user edition.
